Simply put, Naturopathic medicine is primary healthcare without the use of drugs or surgery. It is a distinct branch of medicine that utilizes the body’s healing abilities and non-toxic natural therapies. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are trained in conventional medical treatment and diagnosis. However, much greater emphasis is placed on natural healing modalities.

Naturopathic education equips physicians with a wide variety of tools such as homeopathy, nutrition, botanical medicine, oriental medicine, hydrotherapy, ayurvedic techniques, pharmacology, physical medicine and lifestyle counseling. This eclectic toolbox of knowledge allows for precise personalization with each individual.

Naturopathic medicine works well with today’s standard medical model. In cases where drugs are absolutely necessary, NDs will write prescriptions (in some states), or refer the patient to a conventional Medical Doctor (MD). Your ND will work closely with your primary care physician or other medical specialist to coordinate your care when necessary. Naturopathic medicine is the perfect mix of tradition and innovation. It should be incorporated in the long term wellness and disease prevention strategies for both children and adults.

It is important to note that Naturopatic medicine focuses on treating people, not diseases or symptoms. Many people with some of the following conditions have benefited tremendously from Naturopathic care.
