Why is Vitamin D is so Important?

Vitamin D is commonly known as the sunshine vitamin. It technically isn't a vitamin because you really cannot eat it and vitamins are found in food. Vitamin D is made by your body and this only happens when you get direct sun exposure to your skin. The trunk of your body (chest and back) has a larger surface area than your face, arms or legs, so in order to make vitamin D, you must expose these areas to direct sunlight often. That definitely becomes a problem at certain times of the year when there is no sun or the weather is very cold. Evolutionarily, people with darker complexions live in tropical warm, sunny parts of the world like Africa or the Caribbean because darker complexions need significantly more sun exposure to create vitamin D due to the natural sun-blocking properties of melanin. People with lighter complexions need to spend less time in the sun to make vitamin D but should aim for as much time as possible (prior to applying sunscreen) and avoid burning. Having adequate amounts vitamin D is a balancing act but what we know from research is that low vitamin D levels are correlated with every form of cancer including skin cancer. It is particularly implicated in cases of breast and ovarian cancers for women. GET YOUR FREE HANDOUT AT: https://www.drparkes.com/vitamind
